Question of the Month
Sensitive Skin – Do you Suffer with it?
Are we born with sensitive skin, or is it something we develop over time with overexposure to the harsh environment and use of poor quality skincare?
Babies can be born with eczema and sensitive skin, and this is a vital time to build strength, resistance and tolerance into the skin. Using products containing ingredients such as Alcohol, Mineral Oil and Isopropyl Myristate from birth, weakens an already fragile skin, thus keeping it in a sensitive state for future years.
Types of Sensitivity
There are varying degrees of sensitivity and, unfortunately, there is not just one simple answer for all types.
The majority of people will suffer with a combination of sensitive skin conditions i.e. redness along with broken capillaries, therefore taking into consideration both concerns before choosing your products and facial treatments is very important.
A big mistake many people make is treating dry, oily and acne issues before sensitivity. Once a sensitive skin is addressed, these other issues can and do resolve themselves without further treatment.
Those suffering from redness, broken capillaries, Eczema and Psoriasis are advised to look at specific Sensitive skincare lines, as these will use ingredients which will sooth, protect and nourish the skin. Some recommended by our professionals at Pevonia include Propolis, Aloe Vera, Panthenol and Lavender.
For those of you who like a treatment (who doesn’t!), then avoid heating ingredients and look at cooling masks instead. Pevonia’s Plantomer Facial which is a rubber setting cool mask infused with Algae, incorporates the wonderful healing properties of Propolis.
